Cleaning your intimate products protects you from infection, extends the life of expensive products, and maintains the material properties that made you buy them in the first place. Different materials require different approaches.
Before and after every use
Rinse with warm water before use if the toy has been in storage. After use, clean immediately — dried fluids are harder to remove and more likely to harbour bacteria.
Silicone toys
Wash with mild unscented soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly — soap residue can cause irritation. Alternatively, spray with LUXE Toy Cleaning Spray (no rinsing required) and wipe with a clean cloth. For deeper sterilisation of non-motorised silicone: boil for 3 minutes, or soak in 10% bleach solution for 10 minutes then rinse completely. Never use silicone lubricants with silicone toys — they degrade the surface over time.
Glass and stainless steel
These can be boiled, dishwasher-sanitised (top rack, no heat-dry), soaked in bleach solution, or cleaned with any antibacterial soap. They’re the easiest materials to keep truly clean. Compatible with all lubricant types.
Motorised toys
Never submerge charging ports in water, even if the toy is rated IPX7 — waterproof means the toy body is submersible, not the charging point. Always check that ports are completely dry before charging. For IPX7-rated toys with no exposed ports: full submersion for rinsing is fine.
Storage
Store silicone toys separately — silicone-on-silicone contact over time can cause surface degradation (they literally bond slightly at a molecular level). Our Satin Storage Pouches separate toys from each other, protect surfaces from dust and lint, and are machine washable.
Keep toys away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid bathroom cabinets — the humidity accelerates degradation of both toys and charging cables.
When to replace
Replace any toy that has visible cracks, discolouration, sticky texture, or an unusual smell. These are signs of material degradation. A well-maintained silicone toy from a reputable manufacturer should last years — but a damaged one should be replaced immediately.
